Katarina Astrup, MSPAS, PA-C (she/her)
Katarina Astrup is a psychiatry PA provider who prescribes and manages mental health medications for
adults. She believes that while medications can play an important role for many, medications are often a
part of a treatment plan that may also include recommendations for therapy and lifestyle changes to help
with overall wellness. There are many benefits of following a healthy lifestyle, including its impact on
mental health.
APPROACH
Katarina takes an evidence-based approach to prescribing medications, and believes in conservative
prescribing practices by focusing on the least number and lowest effective doses of medications, while
typically avoiding the use of controlled medications. For patients requesting medication management with
stimulants, she requires psychological testing, review of medical records, and discussions with therapists
when appropriate.
CLINICAL INTERESTS
Her clinical interests include helping to manage the symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as
others. Katarina enjoys working with each individual to find an optimized treatment plan to help improve
their symptoms.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Katarina received her bachelor’s degree from Augsburg in 2012, followed by her master’s degree from
Des Moines University in 2014.
PERSONAL
She has always called Minnesota home, and her hobbies include spending precious time with family and
friends, traveling domestically and internationally, fishing (especially ice fishing), spending time at the
